Triathlon Training: Tip 5 – Plan Your Training
With your goals set, your next step is to plan your training…
This is the fifth tip in my series “6 Easy Tips for a Successful Triathlon Training Year” which is also available in a FREE eBook at www.GearedUp.biz/ebooks/.
…or more specifically, planning to change the focus of your training throughout the season.
Mark Sisson said it best in his book Training and Racing Biathlons (which is available on Amazon):
“The focus must be on individual workouts, not on miles per week”.
Proper planning means that training moves from general fitness to sport-specific fitness or what I call, training with a purpose, as your season progresses and goal races, or events, near.
A common error many athletes make is training the same way all year round, including a bit of everything in their training week, rather than having training periods that target specific performance and skills.
All proper training plans include:
- a clear definition of season goals,
- identifying strengths and limiters,
- determination of daily, weekly and annual training hours, and
- a priority list of races and their purposes in helping you achieve your season goals.
