What can you do to improve your navigational skills while in the water, you might be wondering.
Well, one thing that you can try is to swim repeats with your eyes closed.

This teaches you to swim in a straight line and is especially helpful in murky water where there are no guidelines.

I’d recommend practicing this skill in a pool with lanes to begin with and only when you have a lane to yourself. Practice it slowly to avoid running into lane lines so you don’t accidentally injure yourself.

Another route you could choose to go with, while swimming repeats with your eyes closed, is to have a friend or trainer let you know when you are moving outside of your lane or when you’re about to hit a wall.

You should only do this until you are comfortable with swimming with your eyes closed. Then you should thank your friend or trainer and continue on your own. This way you’ll be ready to brave the open water, by yourself, in no time.
